“Thank you, but our princess is in another castle… Just kidding.”
-Princess Peach, Super Mario Bros.
She’s the sweetest gal in the Mushroom Kingdom. It’s the lovely Princess Peach! Always off being kidnapped by Bowser, constantly sending Mario to rescue her…I’m not really sure what’s going on there! C’mon girl, the whole Damsel in Distress bit is totally played out. Stand up for yourself!
Anyway, I’m sure she’d be a mean player in the kitchen, though. Maybe Bowser kidnaps her because he’s too lazy to cook for himself? Don’t be like Bowser, make your own dessert! Yes, peaches are in season, and although they’re delicious plain, why not take the chance to fancy them up a little bit for a killer treat. Juicy, ripe Peaches and tangy Goat Cheese, sweetened with Maple Syrup, with a hit of some spices and a pinch of Red Pepper for a little kick. Yum!
“Well, I’m going to be here for a while, so I might as well stare at the fish. They are oddly hypnotic.”
-Toad, Super Mario 64
It’s-a me, I’mma here with-a dish that is easy and full-a fish!
Okay, I have to admit, this recipe is another act of revenge. Does anyone actually like water levels in any video games? Especially ones full of devillish fish that constantly make attempts on your life as you desparately try not to drown. Anyone? No, I didn’t think so.
“Mario! We’ve-a lost-a so much weight since we-a stopped eating pasta!”
In any case, Mario and Luigi are pretty busy guys. They don’t have time for complicated dishes, what with having to dash off and save Princess Peach all the time. While you’re on your way through World 3, you might as well snag a Cheep-Cheep or two for dinner, and let them marinate while you hop through World 4. Supper will be on the table before you know it!
See, it’s so easy, you don’t even need a Princess Peach to cook dinner for you. Simple, effortless and tasty. There’s no reason not to try it out!
Back when I was at OCAD, working away on my thesis, I came up with these little critters that became known as Potato Bugs. If you look through my Narrative Portfolio, you can see some examples of the creatures and their impish ways. Currently, however, I am much more interested in Sweet Potatoes, so I decided to show some different species of my Potato Bugs.
My favourite type is the White Fleshed Sweet Potato! The Purple Sweet Potato, though vibrantly coloured, does not top the flavour list. I’d rank it side by side with the Orange.
Anyone have any favourite Sweet Potato recipes they’d like to share?
“My neighbor to to ro totoro to to ro totoro
if you ever meet him, a wonderful happiness will
come to you!”
-Japanese Theme, My Neighbour Totoro
Such a cute and endearing movie, it’s one of the first Studio Ghibli movies I ever watched. This was before I even knew what Studio Ghibli was! Miyazaki always crafts such unique and magical worlds in his movies, and the characters are endearing an compelling. Even though Totoro himself can be a little scary at times, mostly he is mystifying and charming! This recipe captures the essence of forest and fall flavours, a little sweet and mostly savory. I’m sure Totoro would dig in heartily!
